Rhubarb Roses is a rose candle that opens tart, turns floral and lands somewhere warm. Rhubarb gives it its sharpness, jasmine sits alongside the rose to soften the heart, and amber grounds the base with a quiet warmth that keeps the whole thing from being too light.
Hand-poured in Melbourne, 200g natural soy wax, FSC certified wood wick. The floral candle in the Renaissance range for people who find most rose candles too heavy or too sweet.
About Rhubarb Roses
A rose candle done well is one of the harder things to get right.
Rose is a fragrance note that most people have an opinion on. Too much and it tips into old-fashioned. Too little and it disappears into the blend. Most rose scented candles land in one of two places: powdery and dated, or sweet and obvious. Rhubarb Roses lands somewhere different.
The rhubarb is what changes it. Tart, slightly acidic and genuinely unexpected alongside a floral, it gives the opening of this candle a brightness that cuts through any heaviness before the rose arrives. Jasmine follows in the heart - softer than rose, with a creamy quality that rounds the floral without adding sweetness. Amber sits underneath all of it, warm and resinous, giving the candle its base and its staying power.
The effect is a rose soy candle that reads as modern rather than traditional. Feminine without being fussy. Bold enough to be interesting, balanced enough to wear in a living room rather than just a bedroom. The candle people consistently ask about when they smell it somewhere else.
The 200g ceramic burns with an FSC certified wood wick that crackles softly and creates a wide, even melt pool across the soy wax, so the rhubarb and rose carry properly through a room. Developed in-house by founders Suji and Jeeva, IFRA certified and cruelty free, poured by hand in Melbourne.
Scent Notes
Top: Rhubarb Heart: Rose, Jasmine Base: Amber
Reading the Notes
Rhubarb — tart, bright and slightly acidic. It opens Rhubarb Roses with a freshness that stops the floral heart from becoming heavy, and gives the candle its name and its edge.
Rose — warm and classic in the heart, but carried here by rhubarb and jasmine rather than standing alone. This is what makes Rhubarb Roses a rose candle rather than a rose perfume.
Jasmine — softer than rose, with a creamy and slightly sweet quality. It sits alongside the rose in the heart to round the floral without tipping the balance toward sweetness.
Amber — warm, resinous and quiet. The base note that gives this romantic candle its depth and lets the floral notes last longer than they would without something to hold onto.
How to Use
Burn Rhubarb Roses for at least two hours on the first light. This gives the melt pool time to reach the edges of the ceramic and sets the burn pattern for every use after that.
Trim the wick to around 5mm before each burn. Wood wicks occasionally need the charred tip snapped off before relighting - this keeps the flame height steady and the crackle consistent.
Store the candle away from direct sunlight between burns to hold the fragrance.
